from actual to ideal self

wooohooo it’s just me myself and I… Me. Myself. And I. The self. But who am I? Who is my SELF? Most of us have a very critical view on their selves. Here, the psychology distinguishes between the actual and the ideal self: The actual self refers to the person or the self that we think we already are. The ideal self is the person we wish to be. Let’s have a closer look at the actual self first: “I’m not good enough, I can’t do that, my legs are too fat…” Feels familiar? But why are we so critical with ourselves? And most important: How can we be more relaxed with our self-image? Sadly but true, most of us are programmed to pay more attention to our failures rather than to our successes. If we do something good, if we accomplish something, we mostly have a few seconds of joy. If we do something embarrassing we probably think about that weeks later.
