Hey there amigos!
In the last post I was telling you about the reason I went vegan and how amazingly it changed my life. You can surely tell that I went vegan because of health issues. This is a very egoistic reason to skip eating animal products along all other possible reasons. It’s about me. It’s about the way I feel better.
But there are so much more reasons to go vegan! Reasons that kept me motivated everyday to stay vegan, especially in the starting time of changing my diet:
My impact on other people
I’ve never been the type of girl who would scream at meat eaters and try to lecture them. Not at all and I never will! I just want to share with you the reasons I follow a plant-based diet. I’m vegetarian for 14 years now and vegan for almost 7 years. I do it because I’m totally convinced by it. What I recognised was that people in my environment started slowly to show more interest. Some of them started arguing with me just by the fact that I mentioned that I don’t eat animal products. Sadly, a lot of people feel offended just by hearing it, although I was just mentioning it. But there are also those people that show interest. That are sceptical and ask a lot of questions. Usually I’ll offer them something to eat or recommend them good books or documentaries I was watching that are very informative. People in my environment started to tell me that they eat less meat because of me or that they eat more fruits and vegetables. And those are the moments I have a big proud mommy smile on my face! One of my friends I was working with even started a vegan fitness blog and mentioned me as one of the reasons she started a plant based diet (you can find her blog here: http://www.marilenagunst.com). The fact that someone tells me that they eat healthier because of me is just everything for me :’)!
My impact on animals
I love love love animals! I’m the type of person that want to be a crazy dog lady when I’m old! I wish I could own a whole farm full of animals just to pet them. I was also lucky enough to grow up with several animals. And avoiding eating meat gives me a very very good feeling about that. I just love the fact that I don’t support animal cruelty with my lifestyle (and once again, I don’t want to offend meat eaters with this statement, It’s just how I feel about myself. I’m not judging anyone else!!!).
My impact on the environment
Do you know that world hunger could be stopped if everyone was following a plant-based diet? If this is not reason enough, then I don’t know. I think everyone heard about the fact that eating meat wastes a lot of water and food that is used to feed the animals. Even Albert Einstein was vegetarian and said: “Nothing will benefit human health and increase the chances for survival of life on Earth as much as the evolution to a vegetarian diet”.
I’m very happy that there is something like a trend for a healthier and vegan diet nowadays. When I started 7 years ago, cooks were asking me what vegan was and I was struggling hard to find something eatable when I ate out. Today it’s soooooo so easy! There are plant-based cafes, restaurants and sections in the supermarkets. If you still need any kind of tipps, If you have questions or anything else, please don’t hesitate to ask me. I would be happy to help!
